Hyundai D4BB: identify the 2.6-litre engine before you quote.

“H-100 diesel engine” can describe more than one specification. Hyundai’s 2017 H-100 owner’s manual lists both D4BB and D4CB, making the full code important when you source a replacement.

What the official manual establishes

In Hyundai’s 2017 H-100 manual, D4BB is the 2.6-litre diesel: 2,607 cc, with a 91.1 × 100 mm bore and stroke. The same table identifies the 2.5-litre diesel as D4CB, 2,497 cc. A vehicle-family description is therefore not a complete engine specification.

This is a reference to the manual’s covered H-100 range, not a claim that every H-100 in every country uses D4BB. It also does not establish interchangeability with D4CB. For a used-engine request, identify the receiving vehicle and the actual unit separately.

Matching firing order is not evidence of a match. The table helps catch a code or displacement error on a requirement sheet; it is not an installation instruction. Do not attach one power rating, emissions level or accessory specification to every D4BB without the appropriate application document.

Vehicle identity and engine identity are two checks

The manual’s Consumer Information section, 8-2 (PDF page 249), distinguishes the vehicle identification number from the engine number. It states that the engine number is stamped on the engine block and supplies separate illustrations for the 2.5L and 2.6L versions. Use the illustration appropriate to the vehicle rather than guessing a universal stamping location.

  1. Read the vehicle plate and records. Record the full model designation, VIN or chassis reference, year and original market. Send the plate image through the enquiry channel rather than publishing it.
  2. Photograph the block marking. Provide an overview showing where the marking belongs and a readable close-up. If corrosion, damage or replacement history leaves the identity uncertain, state that explicitly.
  3. Check the requirement against the offered unit. Keep the original vehicle identity and supplier’s offered engine identity in separate fields. A typed label in an advertisement does not replace a readable unit marking.
  4. Define the assembly boundary. List injection equipment, intake and exhaust components, starter, alternator, wiring, brackets and any transmission needed. Ask the supplier to mark each as included, excluded or awaiting confirmation.

Turn “D4BB complete” into a checkable request

Use the LSVANT D4BB product reference to start your list, then provide the receiving application and the component scope. A reference photo is not a condition report for the unit that may be offered.

Download the D4BB identification worksheet (CSV)

The worksheet separates identification evidence from inspection evidence. For example, a readable D4BB marking answers an identity question. It does not provide compression results, service history or a guaranteed remaining life. If a specific test is needed for acceptance, ask whether it is available for the offered engine and record the result or the outstanding check.

Questions about a used D4BB

Is D4BB the same designation as D4CB?

No. Hyundai’s manual lists them separately, with different displacement and bore/stroke figures. Do not accept one code against an order for the other without a separate technical decision.

Can the manual confirm a used engine’s condition?

No. It supplies manufacturer reference information. Condition and any tests need evidence tied to the actual unit offered.

Can LSVANT confirm a price from the code alone?

The code starts the enquiry. Provide quantity, receiving application, components and destination so the team can check the requested supply scope and prepare a quotation. Availability requires confirmation.
