Buying guide / Quote scope

Engine only or complete?
Compare the same scope.

Two quotations can use the same engine code and still cover different components. Define the required assembly before asking which price is lower.

A label is not an included-parts list.

Descriptions such as engine only, bare engine, long block and complete assembly can be used differently by suppliers. Ask for an explicit written component list instead of relying on the label. Record what your workshop needs and what the seller is actually offering in separate columns.

Start with the full code and original-unit identification. Add the recipient vehicle or equipment, transmission and drivetrain details. A more complete assembly does not automatically establish compatibility with a particular vehicle.

Break the requirement into component groups.

GroupQuestions for the quotation
Core engineWhich engine code and physical unit are offered? Which major components are included, removed or untested?
Fuel and airAre the required injection components, intake parts, exhaust parts and turbocharger, if applicable, included? Which are shown in the unit photos?
ElectricalAre starter, alternator, sensors, harness and ECU required? Which of these are supplied, and what identification is available?
TransmissionIs a gearbox part of this offer or a separate request? What identification and application evidence are needed?
ShipmentWhat packing, labels and freight scope are included? Are additional handling or destination services excluded?

Match evidence to the actual offered unit.

Request photos that show the identification and the visible included components. Ask what inspection was performed, when it was performed and whether the evidence refers to this exact unit. A reference photograph or a video of another engine cannot establish the condition of the engine being quoted.

Where information is missing, keep it marked as unconfirmed. Agree how a component omission or identity mismatch would be handled under the actual order terms. Do not treat a broad condition description as a substitute for an agreed scope.

Make the price comparison explicit.

Record currency, quantity, offered-unit condition, included accessories, packing and freight terms beside each price. Compare equivalent lines. If one supplier offers an engine-only unit and another includes electrical parts or a gearbox, the difference should remain visible in your buying list.

Quotation validity and stock reservation are separate matters. Confirm the offered units, payment arrangements, reservation conditions if any, and the final order scope directly with the supplier.

Add the receiving requirement.

For a North or South American destination, identify the receiving country and port. Ask your broker which unit identification or supplier documents are needed for the proposed shipment. This checklist organizes a quotation; it does not establish import eligibility or emissions compliance.

Use the buying-list template for codes, quantities and component requirements. If several models will travel together, continue with the mixed-engine shipment checklist.
