Toyota 2KD and 2KD-FTV: read the suffix before you quote.

2KD appears in listings as if it were one engine. Toyota's own model information describes 2KD-FTV as a common-rail turbo diesel of 2,494 cc, and that description carries a specific rating. The distinction decides what you are buying.

The short answer

2KD is the engine family designation. 2KD-FTV is the designation Toyota uses for the common-rail turbo diesel version of that family: four cylinders, DOHC 16 valves, direct injection, turbocharged, 2,494 cc, bore and stroke 92.0 x 93.8 mm, compression ratio 17.4:1. A listing that says only 2KD does not by itself establish that any of this applies to the unit offered.

Toyota's published rating for that version is 88 kW (120 hp) at 3,600 rpm and 325 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Those numbers belong to the market and model year the document covers, not to every 2KD ever built.

Why the figures differ between sources

The same designation can be rated differently in different markets, model years and applications, and the emission step fitted changes with them. A figure copied from one market's brochure is a starting point for a question, not a specification for a used unit. The only rating that matters for a purchase is the one recorded on the unit's plate or in the documents that travel with it, confirmed against the configuration actually fitted.

Keeping 1KD beside 2KD is the fastest way to catch a listing that mixes the two: same document, same layout, different displacement and different rating.

Confirm on the unit, not on the listing

Four checks separate a documented unit from a described one:

Parts, condition and quantity

Two units with the same code can differ in what is included and what has been tested. Before comparing prices, establish:

For the component-scope question itself, the engine only versus complete assembly checklist covers the wording to use.
