Import used engines to Ghana: landed cost and clearance planning

For a used-engine order to Ghana, compare the cost of getting a usable, correctly identified engine into your warehouse—not just its advertised export price. Your purchasing plan should connect the supplier’s line-item quotation, GSA scope checks and your clearing agent’s destination estimate.

Understand what the Ghanaian agent needs

Ghana Revenue Authority’s import procedure lists the bill of lading or waybill, attested invoice, packing list, Import Declaration Form, importer tax identification and applicable regulatory permits. It describes agent submission through ICUMS, followed by classification, valuation and approval before the tax bill is paid. Confirm the documents applicable to your particular engine shipment with the agent.

Ghana Standards Authority’s import-inspection guidance includes vehicle spare parts among its high-risk-goods categories. Obtain current instructions for used standalone engines, including whether origin assessment or destination inspection applies. Do not treat a rule for complete used vehicles as an automatic answer for engines shipped separately.

Add the confirmed amounts to calculate the batch’s landed cost. For a mixed order, do not allocate every charge equally without considering different engine values, packing needs and weight. Use a consistent allocation method in your margin worksheet. A purchase invoice is not a final customs assessment, and FOB pricing does not include the entire delivery cost.

Ask the forwarder to name the booked port and applicable free time. If your route uses Tema, plan both port collection and delivery to your actual warehouse. Keep a reserve for a delayed release, but do not present that reserve as a fixed government fee. Recheck the budget when the model mix, sailing or currency changes.

Choose stock that your customers can actually use

Use repair-shop feedback and sales records to decide the model mix. Separate petrol and diesel lines, and specify whether each engine must include its turbocharger, fuel system, wiring or other accessories. A cheaper bare engine can become a costly purchase if customers need components that are difficult to obtain locally.

Ask for current identity photos and an agreed identification method for every selected unit. Create a receiving sheet with the code, quantity, included components and expected evidence. This lets your sales staff explain what is supplied without promising that every engine is interchangeable with every vehicle in a family.

Use written acceptance points to control the order

LSVANT’s standard process starts with your codes, quantities and destination. We confirm availability and commercial terms in a written pro forma invoice. The 30% initial payment starts preparation; numbered photos and supervised videos support your remote review before the 70% balance and dispatch. If a unit shows a problem in the photo review, it is replaced before the balance is paid.

Our 20-plus years of industry experience, 15,000-engine inventory and support for over 700 wholesale customers provide a sourcing base, while each order still needs its own agreed fitment and condition scope. A first order can start from 10 engines. Warranty support is available under the written product-specific terms; agree coverage and the reporting process before payment.

Ghana buying questions

Is the lowest FOB quotation always the best option?

No. Compare included components, inspection evidence, packing, freight exclusions and expected landed margin on the same basis.

Can LSVANT guarantee my Ghanaian duty amount?

Your clearing agent must confirm classification, valuation and current charges. We provide the agreed origin-side commercial and packing information for that review.
